What I Like about Sundays
Summer Soul Challenge Three: A Summer Sabbath

John 19:31
(NLT) - It was the day of preparation,
and the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very
special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten
their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be
taken down.
That’s how serious the Jewish people
were about their preparation for the Sabbath. Below are a few suggestions on
how you can take your preparation seriously.
Prepare your Mind:
Prepare your thoughts by
taking care of your personal responsibilities the night before, and/or don’t
schedule things unchurch related right before church. If you are thinking about
all you have to do before service (or after) your mind is less prepared to hear
God speak to you in worship.
If you teach, have your lesson
prepared the night before. Cramming at the last minute or winging it is
dishonorable to your responsibility and makes you stressed and less prepared
for worship.
Whatever your serving responsibility might be, be disciplined enough to come prepared and respectful enough to do your job well!
Prepare your Heart:
Prepare your emotions and
attitude by slowing down and pausing for a time of silence. During this time of
silence choose a spiritual discipline like praying, reading your bible, a short
devotion or listening to Christian music.
Additionally, showing up early
for worship helps you not feel rushed. Try talking to someone new, check out
the ADV news and the sign-up table for what’s new, or just settle into your
seat and begin reviewing the lesson notes and scriptures.
Prepare your Soul:
Prepare ahead of time what you
will tithe. If you wait till the last minute, you’ll likely forget. If you have
not looked over your budget and prayed over your finances ahead of time, you’ll
likely give considerably less to the Lord than you would have if you had made
financial plans to tithe.
Remember, tithing and sacrificial
giving are good for your soul because it is a reminder that you are not
attached to material things. It’s a reminder that “In God You Trust”
Finally, take advantage of
your worship time and use it as a guide to help you prepare for your week. How
can your experience in worship help prepare you to live the sabbath life with
Jesus the rest of the week?
Before you go back to whatever
you were doing, stop and listen/watch the following video and then email me at Jason@adventurecommunity.org and tell me what you like about Sundays or whatever day you worship.
